Ear Infections and cutie pies

Emily looks a bit shell shocked in this picture mainly due to my exuberance with the camera, but I thought this was an excellent shot of her face. You can really see the repair here, the shape of her nose and lip and the fine lines. I think that she looks really amazing and continue to be grateful for Dr. Cutting’s brilliant surgical skills.

ROAR!!! (Emily’s dinosaurs are in a fight to the death)

I guess it’s time to reluctantly write about Emily’s latest ear infection, something I was hoping wouldn’t come up again…well…ever. She had tubes put in during her palate surgery at a year old (that was about 18 months ago), and hadn’t had an ear infection since – until now, that is.

Well, she and Ana just had a bad cold and they BOTH had ear infections (Ana’s first). Ana had bronchitis and sinusitis and we didn’t even realize her ears were involved until we took her back to the doctor for a follow-up check up and she complained her ears hurt like AT the doctor’s office. Sure enough, she had a double ear infection and was given more antibiotics.

Emily’s ears were slightly red at that time (this was right before Christmas) and so the doc gave her an antibiotic which we tried to give her for a couple of days, but Emily fought us tooth and nail.

After two days of getting antibiotic spit in my face, I decided to wait and see if her ear got better on its own. The doctor couldn’t see Emily’s ear drum at the appointment because the tube had come out and was in the way, so she only “thought” she saw some redness.

Well, I guess she had an infection because on Christmas Eve Emily woke up with fluid oozing out of her ear. She seemed to feel better than she had in days though (she’d been coughing the day before and even threw up mucus in the car on the way to my parent’s house). So I figured it was just an infection and we’d take her in for medicine on Tuesday (it was Sunday, the next day was Christmas – I normally don’t wait two days to take her to the doctor).

Long story short, I should’ve made her take the antibiotic the first time around. Emily’s ear drum burst and that’s why it was oozing fluid. She got more antibiotics, which I made sure she drank completely (not easy) plus ear drops. Oy. We’ll take her back next week for a follow-up but she seems all better now – no fluid and sleeping well. I leave you with a picture of my cute bunnies…

Now why couldn’t I get this one before the holidays so I could send it out with my cards??

Here’s Ana with her new haircut (which she hates), but I love it and isn’t that really all that matters?
