Understanding childhood

I recently read a book called A Child’s Work: The Importance of Fantasy Play by Vivian Gussin Paley. The book provides some wonderful insight into how young children (preschoolers to kindergarten) use play as a way to learn and communicate. I always loved to watch Ana and Emily play, and now that I’ve read this book I feel more highly attuned to the importance of their collaborative and solitary play. I highly recommend this book! One warning – if you have kindergarteners in the public school system, you’re going to want to take them out after you read this.
