This little cutie is Sachin. Sachin was born with a unilateral cleft lip/palate and he received nasoalveolar molding (NAM) treatment at a facility in London Ontario. Sachin’s daddy, Balaji, found Emily’s web site and Sachin is now one of her cyber buddies. You can see more pictures of this cutie pie in the NAM gallery. Thanks Balaji, for sharing Sachin’s beautiful smile. Sachin will be one in January and is scheduled to have his palate repaired the day after his birthday. I will post an update on him at that time.

Meet Sachin!
Thursday, November 17th, 2005Prayers for Rachel
Sunday, November 6th, 2005
Meet Rachel, Emily’s cyber buddy. Rachel is four months younger than Emily and was born with unilateral cleft lip and palate. Rachel did not use the NAM, but her mother Darcy found Emily’s blog and was inspired to create a blog for Rachel. Rachel is truly a loved and loving child – take some time to read her story and get to know her.
Rachel will be getting her palate surgery tomorrow morning, so I wanted to be sure to ask anyone who happens upon Emily’s blog in the next day or so to send out some extra prayers for Rachel and her family so they get through this surgery with flying colors, and so that Rachel is home safe and sound as soon as possible . Darcy, lots of white light and positive thoughts are coming your way from New York.
Meet Zachary
Thursday, September 15th, 2005
This is Zachary. He was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate and underwent nasoalveolar molding (NAM) at NYU prior to his lip surgery. His molding was done by Dr. Christina Carter and Dr. Lawrence Brecht and his surgery was performed by Dr. Court Cutting. Zachary received treatment with the NAM a couple of months after Emily, but I still got to meet up with Colleen a few times at NYU when Emily was finishing up her molding and Zach was still in the midst of his.

Zach experiencing a new culinary sensation.

Zachary and his twin sister Jacqueline are cute as two matching baby book ends.
Visit Zachary’s website to read his story and see lots of cute pictures.
Meet Noelle
Saturday, August 13th, 2005
Noelle is the latest baby to be added to the NAM Gallery. I think she’s about one week post op from her lip surgery in this picture – and she’s already smiling!! Noelle’s mom Catherine, and her grandmother, Laura, have both written to me. It is so nice to be able to connect with other families. I’m honored to feature Noelle’s gorgeous new smile on Cleftstories.com. Here’s a summary of Noelle, per her mom..
“Noelle Antonia was born on March 26, 2005 with an incomplete bilateral cleft lip. We did not know about her cleft from the sonograms taken at 20 weeks, and so we rushed to find the best surgeon possible in the midst of all the celebration and excitement surrounding her birth– the first grandchild on both sides! Noelle lives in NJ and loves the park, water, and sucking her thumb, which she became expert at even with the NAM. She’s a fabulously happy baby and loads of fun for her parents.”
Happy Birthday Ryan
Friday, August 12th, 2005
This is Ryan. He lives a good 6-7 hours from New York City, but his parents traveled weekly for his NAM adjustments and stayed in the city while he had his lip surgery. Ryan was born with several complications other than the cleft, all of which are related to a syndrome. He has had several surgeries for issues related to his kidneys in addition to surgery to repair his cleft. In spite of all the challenges he’s faced since he was born a year ago, his mom, Eunok, says he is always smiling at everyone and is a very happy boy. I met up with Ryan’s parents at NYU while Eunok was still pregnant and Emily was going through the molding process. They are the sweetest parents and I truly feel blessed to know them.
